a blessing and a curse

A BLESSING AND A CURSE

i. the curse

gnaw and swallow
feeling deeply is a curse
one in five are born “disturbed” they say
“don’t be so sensitive”

gnaw and swallow
looney bins and grave yards
hide out on the street with me
expunging pain
cancel out the cacophony of senses
sail us into a collective dream
where
the wake up call always comes
too soon
never worth the expulsion

pause the repeat
cancel the doctors and the dealers

ii. the blessing

retreive and collect
in a curious light
sip the good
craddle the bad
kiss the ugly

one in five are born “special”
they say
to perceive
to savor exquisite pain
is to journey through a wild storm
naked and alone and afraid and vulnerable and damaged

so be it.

slice up your fingers
exploring the edges

don’t turn away

push on through
to the side of blessings
fragile and delicate and beautiful
and true

sip the good
cradle the bad
kiss the ugly
