WHAT IF?
what if it’s just a game?
wouldn’t that be funny?
deliberately sealed
by decaying skin
folded tightly in our truth
when every contradiction
is just as true
to scrape denial
like fingernails on a chalk board
to jerk our knees into
temptation and shame
just to glimpse a revelation
that evaporates like smoke
to wash our children
in the ashes of trumpery
to keep putting out our little fires
just to watch the world aflame
wouldn’t that be funny
if it was just a game?
Love your poetry and illustrations. Splendid is the word that comes to mind.
Thank you so much Teresa!!
